For those of you connected to the city sewer service, when you have a mainline sewer stoppage, you will be looking for a cleanout access to use the equipment needed to snake or hydrojet the line clear. While most mainline sewer residential systems have cleanouts, many that were built over 40 years ago do not have a mainline cleanout. Some of them did have a cleanout at the tail end of the house sewer which can usually be accessed by a crawl space at the side of the house if built on a foundation. In these instances, a cleanout can sometimes be extended from the tail end of the house sewer to the rear of the home, eliminating the digging required to otherwise add a cleanout such as with a slab foundation.
